Practical solutions for gearbox oil leakage

Oil leakage is headache for worm gearbox, generally the root causes are improper installation, bad or worn seals&gaskets,cracks in gearbox housing, or tiny casing holes,loose or miss bolts/nuts for connections and so on. But there is an important reason may be overlooked, it is high temperature, which could result leakages by thin oil, sealing seams or gaps,worn seal&gaskets. 

Here I would like to analyse the root causes for high temperature and give practical solutions:

1.Bad ventilation environment: improper ventilation or vent holes were blocked, these will cause high internal pressure, at the same time, oil will be thinner at high temperature, moreover, heat expansion will cause sealing seams because expansions are different between aluminum/or steel gearbox housing and seal/gaskets.

Solutions: use cooling systems to improve the ventilation environment, generally can use fan or air conditioner if necessary.

2.Shards or chipping mixed into oil: Gearbox components were improperly cleaned, cutting shards or chipping are mixed in oil after running, the contaminants can get into bearings seals and shafts, will get more frictions and damages among them, temperature keep raising for this bad situations.

Solutions: use high quality level gearbox, generally factory own brand or custom brand gearbox have higher requirements, must completely clean components before and after assembling, make sure there is no burr or damages on shaft,gears. Create complete QC system to ensure cleanness, QC inspections get through all stages of manufacturing.

3.Overtime running: 24 hours per day running always is not a good option, frictions among bearings,shafts,gears,and seals bring quite a lot of heat after long time running, at high temperature and long time running,seal&gaskets are easier getting hard and worn out.

Solutions: Reasonable operation time is always important for every machines, maintenance is necessary for gearbox too, do inspections frequently. Select high quality, high precise gearbox products,higher precise,less frictions.
